Comfortable Hotel Cawdor in Llandeilo, Wales

Hotel Cawdor, Rhosmaen St, Llandeilo, SA19 6EN  £85 B&B for couple, Friday night stay

This is a lovely hotel, a beautiful old building keeping lots of original features. Comfy sofas in the large lounge spread around a glowing fire, and rooms are extra spacious with modern shower room and the added comfort of a large bathrobe each. Our room, Talley, was on first floor at the front of the hotel, so you can hear passing traffic but as it is not a busy road, this wasn’t an issue.

Be aware Friday night in December is party night! No tables available to book for dinner in the restaurant, but as a resident they serve the bar menu from 6.00-9.00pm. We were not sure about this option, but the bar food was excellent quality and value and drinks are very reasonably priced for a hotel. We chose pulled lamb shepherd’s pie and grilled chicken on a bed of ratatouille. Very tasty, especially the ratatouille. We were naughty and added a bowl of sweet potato chips but didn’t really need them! Add a bin-end bottle of red wine for £12 and it was a perfect supper around £25 for two.

Breakfast includes a comprehensive menu of freshly-cooked full fried breakfast as well as porridge, and the usual cereals, fruit juice, toast and pastries. Altogether, it is an excellent hotel in a small rural town with an interesting range of small, independent shops and lots of cafes. We will be happy to choose Hotel Cawdor again when we are travelling through this area of Wales.
